JOSEPH P. DONNELLY
Joe Donnelly is a dynamic Associate Trial Attorney for SSKB, known for his courtroom skills and tireless dedication to his clients. Focusing his career on obtaining justice for victims, Joe’s passion and expertise have secured his clients a number of successful outcomes in some of the firms’ most significant cases.
Joe’s natural ability to connect with people, combined with his passion to advocate for others, are two of his most powerful assets. His genuine approach to working with clients creates a sense of comfort and support not often found after a devastating accident. Joe’s ability to establish trusting relationships with his clients quickly allows him to concentrate his efforts on delivering a strong and persuasive case in court to right the wrongdoing his clients have suffered.
As a proud former Assistant District Attorney in Queens, Joe has a comprehensive understanding of how personal injuries and traumatic events can affect an individual’s quality of life. At the DA’s office, Joe gained valuable experience prosecuting and investigating a variety of violent and non-violent crimes, getting a first-hand look at how easy it is for individuals to go down the wrong path without the proper support.
Joe has secured a number of impressive verdicts and settlements in his career. Working alongside senior partner, Marvin Salenger in the case of Kuper v. Bretstein, Joe helped secure a seven-figure verdict in Queens County for a client who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motorcycle accident. Joe’s exceptional representation of victims of negligence, harassment, and discrimination has earned him a spot in the National Trial Lawyers Association’s “Top 40 Under 40”. Additionally, Joe is an active member of various professional organizations, including the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Nassau Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association, the Assistant District Attorney Association of Queens County, and the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Queens County.
Handling all stages of the litigation process, Joe is highly involved with every aspect of the case from intake through resolution. With a concentrated focus in both personal injury and sexual harassment law, he handles cases in the State and Federal courts of New York City and Long Island, as well as in arbitration proceedings. Additionally, Joe specializes in occupational work injury cases involving police officers and firefighters on the job. Coming from a family of first responders, Joe understands first hand the trauma that can unfold with these positions and the dangerous line of work they entail.
After receiving his undergraduate degree with honors from Stony Brook University, Joe began his career in the real estate industry. He then attended St. John’s University School of Law at night, while helping to support his wife and young children. During law school Joe worked as a law clerk at SSKB, where he assisted in some of the firm’s most high-profile cases. After graduating St. John’s Law School with honors, he went on to become an Assistant District Attorney in a felony trial bureau at the Queens District Attorney’s Office. Joe returned back to SSKB as an Associate Trial Attorney in 2017. Joe is admitted to practice in New York, as well as the United States District Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
