New NY Bill Will Make Internet Maps and Satellite Images Admissible

Internet-based maps and satellite images from reliable sources like Google have long contained information that would help judges and juries better understand and evaluate legal claims. Unfortunately, efforts to admit this kind of information into evidence have been met with multiple objections and mixed results.

A new bill, awaiting the Governor’s signature, would allow courts to accept Internet-based maps and images after confirming their authenticity. This will reduce the cost of litigation by eliminating the need to obtain the same information from more traditional sources. This bill is supported by the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and Salenger, Sack, Kimmel & Bavaro.
